With its Retro Look, Even the Building Tells of Tsuruga’s History
Built in 1927, the former Owada Bank building that the Tsuruga Municipal Museum is located in is considered an exceptional example of early 20th century modern architecture. It was constructed by the local hero Owada Shoshichi, and demonstrates through its lavish architecture the prosperity that Tsuruga Port enjoyed at the time, including the largest elevator in the Hokuriku region, marble countertops, a large vault, and more. Today, the Tsuruga Municipal Museum offers exhibits on the history, folk customs, and art of Tsuruga.
